In our small live/work studio we are always struggling with balancing square inches between the chaos of creativity and the comfortable spaces required for relaxation. Disorganization is a result of trying to cram too many functions into small spaces. And if that wasn’t enough, we’d like to add more activities into the mix. Therefore, we are in the market for a new studio space. But until then I find this quote inspiring:
Start .. by simply getting rid of anything unnecessary. Making a small space work is all about ruthless editing; strip your home [and studio] of everything that goes unused or is not absolutely essential. A good rule of thumb is to retire anything that is not contributing to your happiness.
or this old standby:
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
-William Morris
These days I need to keep that in mind.
